I would like to express my deep gratitude to the entire team at Epoch Elder Care for providing me and all the volunteers with the opportunity to work closely with the elderly residents and experience the immense joy it brings. I visit both the elder care facilities in Gurgaon, i.e Vermeer house and Frida house every week to engage in storytelling sessions and bhajans, and I must say that I find myself learning more than I could ever teach! Working with the residents here has been a completely unique and enriching experience. The staff members are exceptionally positive and supportive, creating an atmosphere of warmth and encouragement. During our storytelling sessions, we all come together, and it's heartening to see everyone participating, responding, and even singing along with me. The energy in the environment is consistently high-spirited and positive, and I attribute this to the dedication of the staff. Storytelling was never a skill I thought I possessed, but as I continue to come here week after week, it has become an integral part of my life. I've discovered a newfound passion for storytelling that I never knew existed. Storytelling serves as a wonderful recreational activity for the old aged residents, helping them stay engaged and attentive. Their participation and singing along during our sessions elevate their spirits, setting a positive tone for the rest of their day. My experience here has not only improved my storytelling abilities but has also taught me valuable insights into geriatric care, including understanding their emotions and the importance of patience. The residents' connection with us volunteers brings immense joy and motivation, inspiring us to do more for them. It has also equipped me with valuable skills in interacting with the elderly, even within my own family. Epoch has succeeded in creating an environment that feels like a home away from home, offering care not only for individuals with dementia but also for those with various clinical conditions. This not only ensures a safe and secure environment with 24/7 care but also contributes to reducing the stigma surrounding dementia and the crucial need for proper care. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks once again for this incredible opportunity to volunteer with Epoch. Volunteering with Epoch has not only allowed me to contribute to the residents' well-being but has also helped me rediscover myself!
